Decretos: si merezco soñar, si merezco vivir

In 2017, in Veracruz, the arrest of the then-governor for corruption revealed notebooks in which his wife, Karime Macías, repeatedly wrote the phrase “yes, I deserve abundance.” That insistent writing became marked by ostentation and dispossession, by everything that had been taken from others.

From that echo, this piece takes shape through fragments and remnants of a flag. On them, I embroider phrases that function as personal and collective affirmations: yes, I deserve to live, yes, I deserve childhood, yes, I deserve safety. Simple words that name what is essential—what should care for and sustain us, yet has been relegated.

Embroidery becomes an act of memory and resistance. In the face of a State that has failed to protect its people, these affirmations reclaim the minimum: life, dignity, and the right to imagine a future.
